USA - Bringing the Heat to Winter!

NOW IN OUR SECOND YEAR, what started as a small 2 venue, 4 stop series in Southern California has grown into what is arguably the largest “All Level” Freestyle Scooter Competition Series in Western North America. (“All Level” meaning all rider levels are honored, and all must qualify for championships to potentially earn a recognized title in their respective divisions, not just pro) . This 2018/2019 season takes the comps beyond Cali and into Arizona and Nevada for the first time in years. 5 qualifiers held in 3 states, with our final “Wild Card Jam Qualifier & The Championships” still to come on Feb. 8th & 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Over 330 registrations have come through to date for the series, which averaged 80 plus riders at each qualifier thus far. We kicked off the series in October 2018 at a hidden gem of a skate park in PALA, CA with 50+ riders and families in attendance. Word quickly spread of the good vibes, commitment to fair scoring, and generous prizes contributed by our sponsors, and at our 2nd stop in Nov. 2018 at Premises Skate Park in Tucson, AZ our numbers grew to over 70 riders.

By the time we held our 3rd stop in Sedona, AZ this past December, well over 80 riders and their supporters made the trek out to what can only be considered one of the most scenic and gorgeous skate parks in the US today (see image below)! That event was one for the books, not just for the backdrop of trees and red mountains, but the whole event was textbook; great fun, on time, fantastic energy! We even stopped many a hiker and mountain biker from their planned day as they got caught up in our comp and stayed to cheer on the riders!

Just when we thought we’d hit our goal and could never outdo the Sedona vibe, January 2019 saw our 4th qualifier in Atascadero, CA at the ATown Park blow the lid off everything we had accomplished to date, and showed the whole scooter community, just what happens when good people who want only the best for the sport, join together to make an event that earns the very definition of the word, EPIC.

Over 100 riders of all levels, beginners to pros, girls, and street, put on a clinic in scooter riding. Hosted by the MC to the stars, Jake “Nekbeard” Hershey, the event was as flawless as hometown hero & Pro Rider, Chris Farris’ mind blowing run! Judges Nolan Shoemaker, Anthony Richley and Jared Foulk tightened up on scoring, keeping within a solid margin and had many a tough call to make as the riders stepped it up and made them work hard for their money! We even saw our first 3-way tie that went to 2nd scores to be decided.

The ATown contest featured some of the most recognized young guns and up & coming Pro riders in the Western USA. Full results can be seen here ATOWN RESULTS. And our final Championship LEADERBOARD lists some highly recognizable young scooter stars like young female athletes Beca Ortiz & Claire Parks, Street riders Noah Brabernec & Tyler Nunes, new comp riders taking the scene by storm Preston Stell, Grayson Festerling, Jack Walsh & Sean Nicholson, and the “OG” young guns who need no introduction Brig Beck, Blake O’Gorman, Ian McDonald, and Colin Mclean.

Brand & Shop Owners/Ride Team Managers would do themselves a solid by taking notice of these names and keep their eyes on these riders. Especially some of the newer pro riders like Dejion Taylor, Daniel Deeder, Dom Deeder, Myles Johnson, Nate Pena, and Hunter Frost, who are all knocking on the door to the international pro scene with undeniable force. Indeed, most of these riders qualified last year for the “Top 50” Pro Division at the ISA NA Finals in Chino, CA, young Daniel, just 12 at the time, finishing just outside of the top spots, missing an invite to Worlds by three riders! All of these up and coming pros have their minds set on getting one of those top 10 spots or Wild Cards to Barcelona this year for the first time, one of which goes to the winner of our Championships! The riding at ATown (see video link) showcased just what is in store as they went head to head and held their own with the likes of international Pro stars Chris Farris and Cody Flom!

So now we turn our sights to the finale… And the first time the US is offering its own, legitimate Championship titles in all levels. The USA Winter Series Championships in Las Vegas! USA has secured Jake Hershey (Nekbeard) & Kevin Campion (Owner ATown Park & SCTusa Brand) to MC both the JAM & the Championship events, and judges Dan Barrett, Kiara Meade, Derek Seay, Anthony Richley & Jared Foulk to preside over the judging and scoring. With expected numbers being between 120- 150 riders, and their families, this series finale is rapidly earning respect among the ranks, and is shaping up to take its place among the top competitions on the circuit. And we expect only more growth and support in future years as we continue to forge alliances with new sponsors, pros and other venues/organizers coast to coast and North to South. Ultimately, our goal being to offer the BIGGEST Freestyle scooter contest and competition network here on our home turf, North America!

We welcome and encourage all brands, shops, venues and other industry businesses to join us in this massive undertaking to unite the sport and US scene. With planning already underway for USA’s SCOOT CLUB launch coming in March 2019, now is the chance for all to get in on the ground floor, work together for the greater good, and create a solid infrastructure for our riders and the businesses that support them. So please consider supporting the USA and the Championships, even if simply by sending your riders, and being there in Vegas to watch! Other ways to be involved can be found here SPONSOR INFO. We also seek and encourage parents to volunteer at our events (medical staff, gate security, score keeping, prize table, check in and more). Please CONTACT US for ways you can help!
